Although it may be difficult to leave your beautiful home at The Meadows at Weddington, we highly recommend you explore the area and enjoy the serene countryside as well as the bustling town centers.

Cities & Towns

  • Charlotte, NC (8 miles, 25 miles to downtown) - Experience the exciting possibilities that add character to our city, from cultural institutions and attractions to world-class dining and nightlife to shopping and sporting events unique to the Charlotte region. Enjoy the southern hospitality that we are so well known for!
  • Pineville, NC (14 miles) - Here you will find the charm of a community full of friendly faces and a helping hand, complimented by all the amenities that a larger city has to offer.
  • Matthews, NC (11 miles) - A quaint downtown, attractive neighborhoods, a variety of churches, quality schools and an outstanding hospital and medical facilities make for a full-service community.
  • Indian Trail (14 miles) - Most people know Indian Trail for the trading route established in the seventeenth century between Petersburg, VA and the Waxhaw Indian settlement; thus, the name "Indian Trail." The town became incorporated in 1907 and now hosts a wonderful park maintaining all of its original country charm.
  • Lake Park (15 miles) - Lake Park's landmark, a chiming clocktower, overlooks this beautiful village with church, schools, shops, and a community center. Park areas, swimming pools, playgrounds and ponds provide plentiful recreation and entertainment.
  • Marvin (4 miles) - Marvin was incorporated on July 1, 1994 and has a population of approximately 2,405 residents (as of September 2006) and covers approximately 3,229 acres.
  • Mineral Springs (10 miles) - Mineral Springs is located between Waxhaw and Monroe and has a population of just under 2400. Many residents maintain farms or keep horses and The Queen's Cup, a nationally recognized steeplechase event, takes place in the heart of Mineral Springs on the last Saturday of every April.
  • Monroe (14 miles) - Monroe offers shops on quaint historic Main Streets as well as chic spas and salons.   There are also plenty of places to “pick your own produce,” fish for trophy bass, hike, or ride horses.
  • Waxhaw (6 miles) - Waxhaw’s uniqueness is defined by its diverse character of antique stores, scenic horse farms, and a downtown district that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
  • Weddington (2 miles) - Located 15 miles southeast of Charlotte, Weddington has the distinct atmosphere of a small country town with a population of approximately 8,500 over 15 square miles.
  • Wesley Chapel (7 miles) - The Wesley Chapel community has existed since, or before, the early eighteen hundreds. Central to the area is The Wesley Chapel Methodist Church and the Wesley Chapel School. Both of these continue in existence today.

Recreation

If you're looking to enjoy the outdoors, just step outside your front door. The area is rich in countryside and plenty of things for active people to enjoy.

  • Golf, Tennis, and Swimming….Oh My!

    • Providence Country Club (5 miles) - If you're a golfer, you won't be able to stay away from the premier golf course designed by Dan Maples located at this impressive country club. And when you're not on the links, you and your family can enjoy the other amenities including tennis, swimming, and a well-equipped fitness center. After exercising, get a bite to eat at the Culbertson Grill or just hang out at the illustrious Georgian style club house.
    • Firethorne Country Club (5 miles) -Looking for an incredible setting to play golf? Look no more! The course at Firethorne meanders through a lush forest and features breathtaking views of rock walls, creeks and ponds. Nearby, you'll see members enjoying the tennis and swim facilities. There are four swimming pools and an unbelievable 135-foot water slide. And don't forget the eight Har-Tru tennis courts and two hard courts readily available for tennis players of all ages.
    • Carolina Trail (14 miles) -The Carolina Trail is the home of six of Charlotte's most distinguished golf courses including the Birkdale Golf Club, Charlotte Golf Links, Highland Creek Golf Club, The Divide Golf Club, The Tradition Golf Club and the Waterford Golf Club. No matter which course you choose, they all have game!
    • Emerald Lake Golf Club (16 miles) - Emerald Lake Golf Course combines the beauty of nature with the challenge of a championship golf course. Lush greens surround the beautiful 12-acre Emerald lake, while a smaller lake and serendipitously placed lighted fountains color the rest of this beautiful 6,756 yard, par 71 golfers paradise.
    • Old Sycamore Golf Plantation, Inc. (19 miles) - Enjoy this reasonably priced semi-private golf course located in Charlotte, NC. You won't be disappointed.
    • Blakeney Racquet Club (4 miles) - BRCC is a state-of-the-art racquet club offering racquetball, fitness center, child watch, pro-shop, sauna, lockers, chiropractic care, massage therapy and personal fitness training.  And coming soon…a swimming center and indoor tennis facility.
    • YMCA of Greater Charlotte (7 miles) - Join the YMCA and experience how they "put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all."
  • Horseback Riding

    • Four Seasons Equestrian Center (10 miles) - A great way to develop your skills as an equestrian supported by professional instruction for the beginner or advanced rider.
    • Providence Equestrian Center (5 miles) - Providence Equestrian Center (PEC) offers a conveniently located facility with professional and experienced instructors in a safe, friendly environment. Every student receives the highest caliber of instruction in Hunt Seat and Jumping.

Entertainment/Attractions

The beauty and diversity of attractions in the area is something to behold. It doesn't matter if you're 10 or 110, there are plenty of fun and exciting things to do near The Meadows at Weddington.

  • Daniel Stowe Botanical Gardens (32 miles) - - In 1989, Daniel J. Stowe, a retired textile executive from Belmont, North Carolina, visited the Fuqua Conservatory at Atlanta Botanical Garden and was inspired to build and open a botanical garden in the Charlotte area for all to enjoy. Reserving 450 acres of rolling meadows, woodlands and lakefront property, Stowe and his wife Alene established a foundation to develop a world-class botanical garden. They envisioned a complex evolving over several decades to rival other internationally renowned gardens and they definitely didn't disappoint!
  • Discovery Place (25 miles) - - Ignite the wonder in you by visiting Discovery Place. Discovery Place is a regional science museum that both parents and their children will enjoy. There are educational exhibits, IMAX movies, and hands on interactive displays that can help you and your child learn all about science and nature and the many wonders of the world.
  • Lowe's Motor Speedway (32 miles) -Three NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series events, two NASCAR Busch Series races and a NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series event are among the major events held on this 1.5-mile super speedway. Other events on the various tracks include a weekly, nationally televised short-track series for Legends Cars, Bandoleros and Thunder Roadsters and World Karting Association regional, national and international races. Lowe's Motor Speedway also annually presents two of the nation's largest car shows and swap meets—the Food Lion AutoFairs in April and September. With track rentals and track events, the speedway is used more than 300 days per year.
  • NC Blumenthal Performing Arts (25 miles) - The North Carolina Blumenthal Performing Arts Center (Blumenthal PAC) is your source for the best performing arts events in Charlotte. The Blumenthal PAC is home to ten outstanding arts organizations including ArtsTeach, Carolina Voices, Carolinas Concert Association, Charlotte Philharmonic Orchestra, Charlotte Symphony Orchestra, Community School of the Arts, North Carolina Dance Theatre, Opera Carolina, and The Light Factory.
  • Paramount's Carowinds Theme and Water Park (19 miles) - Enjoy 108 action-packed acres featuring more than 60 world-class rides, shows and attractions. And in 2006, the  Boomerang Bay water park, an Australian-themed Outback oasis of wet fun, was added to this action packed playground.   • US National Whitewater Center (28 miles) - The U.S. National Whitewater Center (USNWC) is the world’s premier outdoor recreation and environmental education center. Alongside mountain-biking and running trails, a climbing center, and challenge course, the park’s unique feature is a multiple-channel, customized whitewater river for rafting and canoe/kayak enthusiasts of all abilities. The USNWC is only 10 minutes from downtown Charlotte and provides over 300 acres of woodlands along the scenic Catawba River. Olympic-caliber athletes, weekend warriors and casual observers share this world-class sports and training center.

Professional Sports

For those professional sports fans, the Carolina Panthers football team, Charlotte Bobcats basketball team, and the Charlotte Checkers hockey team play their home games in Charlotte while the Charlotte Knights play baseball a few minutes away at Knights Stadium in Fort Mill, South Carolina.

Shopping

If shopping is your passion, check out the many malls and local shops in the area. Whether browsing or engaging in some serious retail therapy, you'll find everything your heart desires a short drive from The Meadows at Weddington.

  • Carolina Place Mall (13 miles) - (Pineville, NC) Featuring Dillard's, Macy's, Belk, JCPenney, Sears and over 140 specialty shops including Aeropostale, American Eagle, Ann Taylor and Merle Norman, Carolina Place offers terrific shopping for the whole family!
  • Concord Mills (33 miles) - (Concord, NC) "Where Great Shopping Lives." Concord Mills features hundreds of the best names in retail including Polo Ralph Lauren Factory Store, Nike Factory Store, Osh Kosh B’Gosh Outlet, Zales the Diamond Store Outlet and Off 5th Saks 5th Avenue Outlet.
  • Northlake Mall (32 miles) - (Gaffney, SC) Not only will you find a great selection of stores at Northlake Mall but you and the entire family can enjoy these amenities: Free Wi-Fi, Sports Court, Warner Bros. Looney Tunes Play Area, Kids' Food Court Activity Area, and Coffee Court.
  • SouthPark (14 miles) - (Charlotte, NC) As the Carolinas' premier shopping destination, SouthPark offers an experience like no other.  Home to one of two Nordstroms in the Carolinas and now the first Neiman Marcus in the region and the first full-line Crate & Barrel store! SouthPark offers several other exclusive stores, including  Apple, Bob Ellis Shoes, Burberry,  Cole Haan, Frontgate, Kate Spade, Janie and Jack, Kenneth Cole, Lacoste, Lindt Chocolate, Louis Vuitton, MontBlanc,  Sigrid Olsen, St. John, Sur La Table, Tiffany & Co., Tommy Bahama and Tumi.
